Blue Ocean Seafood has been smoking mackerel for many years. We have the knowledge and recipes to create an appetising and tasty smoked mackerel.
Biology (Scomber scrombus)
Mackerel is a predator that preys on smaller fish, shrimp and small shellfish. It's a fatty fish with an amazingly soft texture. The striped back makes mackerel recognisable. When fresh, its belly is silver. When smoked, its belly turns gold brown.
All mackerel filets are hand filleted. The combination of the filleting and specific ingredients result in a big and meaty filet. The filets are smoked just enough to keep the soft and tasty texture, but still maintain a smoky flavour.
We also use big mackerels for our big mackerel product, they weigh approximately 400gr a piece. Our mackerel has a distinctive shiny, gold colour and melts in the mouth when eaten.
